Biographical Information
Hugh was raised on a sheep and beef cattle farm in northern Hawkes Bay. After completing an Agricultural Degree with Honours at Massey, he was invited to join the Sheep Husbandry Department in 1976 as a Junior Lecturer. While undertaking lecturing duties, Hugh completed a PhD in sheep genetics. In 1995 Hugh was appointed Professor and Head of the Animal Science Department and in 1998 Deputy Head of the Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences. Hugh has spent sabbatical periods in USA, Scotland, Denmark, Canada and Ireland.
